Basic Herb Garden![]() What Home Herb Garden Is Right For YouWant to plant a basic herb garden and enjoy fresh herbs anytime you want? We can help you choose the herb garden that's right for you. A cute window herb garden is an excellent choice for beginning herb gardeners. Some basic herb garden ideas include a simple container herb garden, culinary herb garden, or a kitchen herb garden. People who enjoy formal garden designs may even decide to grow a formal herb garden with many varieties of herbs. The type of garden you choose really depends on what you're needs and wants are. If you only need a few of the more common culinary herbs for cooking, I would recommend starting with a small indoor garden. You may even want to consider an Aeroponics garden such as the "Aerogarden." This type of garden is less messy because the herbs don't require messy potting soils. They receive all their food from a nutrient rich mist the garden produces. ![]() Some people such as myself have a green thumb and love nothing more than to get down and dirty. If this is the case, the "Aerogarden" may not be for you. As I've said before; which ever you choose, I highly recommend starting small. A small garden is easier to maintain, thus enhancing your herb gardening experience. Your Basic Indoor Herb GardenPlanting a window herb garden is one of the easiest ways to grow fresh herbs indoors. All it takes to get started are some decorative pots in a sunny windowsill, along with a few of your favorite herbs. You can also make or buy some window boxes and attach them beneath the windows on the outside of your house. ![]() Keep in mind that some of the herbs you want to grow may require more room. If this is the case, you can add some large planters to the porch, screened patio, or swimming pool area. This will give you a few more options, while still allowing you to have an indoor garden. For those of you who do not want to grow your herbs in soil, or want to grow an organic garden, you may want to consider Hydroponics or an Aeroponics herb garden. Hydroponics is the process of growing plants without the use of soil by feeding them a mineral rich nutrient solution. Aeroponics, on the other hand does not use water in the growing of plants. In Aeroponics the plants are supplied with a nutrient spray at the roots. The plants have all the required oxygen, nutrients and water they need to grow. Your Basic Outdoor Herb GardenOutdoor herb gardens are a little trickier than indoor gardens, because you have other things to consider. You have to account for weather conditions, soil ph levels, and also insects and diseases. Most herbs however are very easy to grow, so you shouldn't have much to worry about. With that being said, growing an outdoor herb garden is still a whole lot easier than growing a traditional vegetable garden. An outdoor herb garden gives you more flexibility when it comes to the herbs you can grow. This is a luxury you won't have with an indoor garden. ![]() A basic herb garden can be anything from a small garden in the corner of your backyard, to a large formal garden. A simple formal herb garden is not as intimidating as it first appears. All you need to do is choose a geometric shape, divide it into equal sections and fill each section with similar or complementary herbs. Another cool herb garden design idea is an herb garden wheel. They are easy to make and can be an attractive addition to your landscape. You know, you really don't even have to have a dedicated garden just for herbs. Because herbs make great companion plants, you can grow them with other plants and vegetables you already grow. Unless you're an experienced gardener, I recommend starting out with just a basic herb garden design. It will be easier to maintain, giving you a more enjoyable gardening experience. x![]()
