Adhatoda (Adhatoda vasica)


This is an excellent herb for asthma treatment. The leaves of Adhatoda act as mild expectorant and bronchodilator. Assisting the expectorant action, it increases the viscosity of mucous. The important constituent of Adhatoda leaf is quinazoline alkaloids. The vasicine is a major alkaloid present in the levels of 45-95% which is the real source of the drug called bromhexine. This drug is used in assisting expectoration.


Ginkgo Biloba (Ginkgo biloba)


The herb Ginkgo Biloba is well known to relieve asthma and its related symptoms like the other herbs for asthma. The anti inflammatory property of Ginkgo Biloba makes it beneficial for the treatment of asthma. It is also known for its benefits of oxygenating the blood, increasing circulation and thereby strengthening the capillaries. The herb serves as a relaxant to the lungs, reducing the discomforts caused by coughing and tissue inflammation. Ginkgo Biloba is however treated to be a safe herb for asthmatic patients.


Grindelia


Grindelia is an expectorant with the bronchospasmolytic property. The herb is beneficial in treating the spasmodic respiratory conditions like bronchitis, asthma and whooping cough. Grindelia is consumed in the form of tea made from the leaves and flowers of the plant. This tea having the expectorant property is helpful in cleaning the phlegm thereby making the breathing process easier.


Coltsfoot


Coltsfoot is a well known herbal remedy for asthma, bronchitis and sore throat. The leaves as well as the blossoms of this plant are used for making herbal teas, syrup, tinctures, and infusions. The therapeutic effects of this herb are popular on being demulcent, anti-spasmodic, anti-tursive, soothing and diuretic. The dried leaves of coltsfoot is also used in cigarettes and smoked as a treatment for asthma.


Evening Primrose


The herb Evening Primrose is an excellent herbal remedy for asthmatic patients. The seeds and roots of Evening Primrose act like an antispasmodic and hence help to relive the bronchial spasm. The oil obtained from Evening Primrose is beneficial in treating the inflammation. This herb can be easily consumed in the form of tea. It is prepared by boiling the roots. For treating cough, you may make a cough syrup by boiling the roots of the Evening primrose in honey.


Licorice root


Licorice root is treated to be one among the effective herbs for asthma. The root helps the asthmatic patients by fighting against the inflammation that constricts the air duct. This herb also has the capability to soothe the breathing pathways that are swollen. Licorice root can be consumed in the form of tea by boiling the roots or taken in the form of capsules.

Herbs for Asthma can definitely help people suffering from asthmatic symptoms. Although it is not promising a permanent cure, it reduces the difficulties to a large extent.
