Growing Herbs at Home!
An Indoor Herb Garden Is A Great Way To Start Growing Herbs
Growing herbs at home in a basic herb garden is a great way to enjoy fresh herbs all year long. It's not only
less expensive, but home grown herbs are far superior in quality than store bought herbs.
We will look at different herb garden ideas and herb gardening tips that I have learned through the years.
When it comes to herbs, you have a lot of options when growing an herb garden. You can grow an
inside herb garden,
outdoor herb garden, winter herb garden, or maybe a perennial herb garden filled with some of your
favorite annual herbs.
Gardeners everywhere, including myself are discovering or rediscovering the benefits of herbs and herb
gardens. I think some of this comes from the increasing awareness of good health and nutrition.
There is nothing that can add more flavor to a meal than a few well-chosen, freshly picked, herbs from
your home herb garden. Because herbs can add so many flavors to foods, you can cut down dramatically
on seasonings that are high in sodium including salt. Some herbs such as anise can even help you limit
the amount of sugar used in some recipes.
Home grown herbs are far superior in quality and taste than store bought herbs. Even home dried herbs
are better than their store bought counter-parts. This is becuase most dried herbs sold in grocery stores
have been dried a year or two before they are even placed on the grocery store shelves.
Growing Herbs At Home
One of the things that turned me on to growing herbs is the fact that they are so easy to grow. Another
reason is space. You don't have to have a large garden to enjoy growing herbs. Some people just have a
few decorative pots filled with their favorite herbs.
When given their preferred growing conditions, most herbs will require less care than almost anything else
in your garden. This will allow you to spend more time on your vegetables, fruits, and flowers.
Because herbs are so easy to grow, they are an excellent choice for any beginning gardener. Not only are
they easy to care for, but the results you get will inspire you on to greater gardening success.
Growing herbs is not just for the beginning gardener! Advanced gardeners can also appreciate herbs and
their easy growing nature. Some advanced gardeners will grow herbs as companion plants for some of
their other plants in the garden.
You can also grow herbs to add color, textures, and aromas to perennial borders and annual flower gardens.
If you need to complement another plant or separate those that clash, you may want to consider an herb
for the job.
Herbs do not have to only be grown in a garden! Herbs can also make excellent ground covers throughout
your landscape. They tend to prosper where other plants have difficulty in growing. For example, if you
have a damp shady area where most plants suffer from diseases, or lack of light, a shade and moisture
loving herb can brighten up the area.
Other Reasons For Growing Herbs At Home
From hair rinses to headache medications, herbal remedies are becoming very popular again.
Some people consider these remedies better for you and the enviroment, and also say they are much more
effective. I myself mainly use and grow herbs for culinary purposes. My wife has recently started
experimenting with making her own homemade lotions and creams.
There's an herbal remedy for just about any illness you can imagine. With the right herbs growing in your
garden, you can make a homemade cure for anything from dry skin to a sore throat.
Herbs are also used to make homemade crafts and arrangements. The fragrance of a homemade potpourri
is so much lovelier than its synthetic version, that you'll wonder why you ever used commercial air
fresheners.
With all the uses and benefits I mentioned, why not start growing herbs at home in your very own herb
garden?
The tips and techniques you will find throughout this website, from start to finish, will help you in laying the
foundation for growing herbs at home.
